Man where do I start at!!! I guess I’ll start by saying that if you missed this event you really did yourself an injustice!

Self-conscious (1021 W. Lake) continues to build its reputation as one the premier boutiques to get fresh and fly while socializing and networking during their monthly in-store events. For this month, I teamed up with my homie Twista & the GMG crew to preview his forthcoming album “Category F5” long before it is due out this June via a GMG/EMI Music release.

Now Rawl, Twista’s mananger, had said that they would roll through for an hour to preview a couple records and then be on their way out. Needless to say, the vibe was so right that night that everyone was kicking it there for well over 2 hrs and I swear Rawl played every record Twista has ever recorded! (hahahaha…I’m sayin you did play a lot of records).

Self-conscious definitely helped in facilitating the vibe by providing food and some of its infamous “sippy-sip drank” that is guaranteed to put you on your a**!  Everyone in attendance appeared to really enjoy hearing the exclusive never-heard-before material from Twista while getting a chance to mingle with him. Heads were nodding and bodies were moving!

Other Chicago notables in the building included L.E.P. Bogus Boys, Mick Luter, Cayex Illah, Jroc from 1st & 15th, DJ Juice, Tight Mike, Speedknot Mobstaz, UB Rodriguez from WGCI, Raw TV, Radio Depaul…and that’s all I can remember cause I got pretty, ahhh, intoxicated. My bad if I forgot you but shouts to EVERYONE who came out to support and kick it period!

Aight so let’s get to the “Moment of Truth”…Is Twista’s album gonna be hot!?
I say YES!

He actually has records that are radio and/or club ready! Of course he has quite a few street records as well that were played for us. I wish I could run down specific track titles but frankly I was doing way too much to write the names down.

In any event, Twista really sounds like he’s a man on a mission to recapture his rightful place among the elite in the HipHop game. To be fair though, there were like 3-4 records that were really questionable to me. In all of those cases I just didn’t like the direction/concept of the record or I felt like Twista strayed too far away from his own sound in an attempt to capture the vibe of what’s hot elsewhere.

Overall he has some great new music and the event was a total success. Support the new single “Wetter (Get It Wet pt.2)” right now by playing it, requesting it, and purchasing it when available online. Check out the video and a few pics below.

Get In Tune! Stupid…
